I urge you not to miss it. Hecate&rsquos magnificent Corinthian temple is surrounded by a vast temenos enclosure, bordered on all sides by Doric stoas. The enclosure was entered via a propylon set rather addly at an angle. Beyond the doorway a flight of ten broad steps leads down towards a very elaborate altar raised on a stepped podium and decorated with some of the most elegant sculpture to have survived from the Hellenistic period. At the time of my visit an extraordinarily beautiful caryatid had just been unearthed, complete apart its head. I felt as if I had directly encountered Hecate in her beneficent aspect.&ldquo
